World Book Day 2026

World Book Day Brings Joy, Imagination and a Little Magic to Myton Gardens

Yesterday, Myton Gardens Primary School was transformed into a vibrant celebration of stories, imagination and the joy of reading as we marked World Book Day in style. Children and staff alike arrived in fabulous costumes, proudly dressed as favourite book characters and beloved authors. The school was alive with colour, excitement and plenty of book‑themed chatter as everyone shared what they loved most about their chosen stories.

One of the day’s most exciting adventures was the whole‑school treasure hunt, where children searched high and low for book clues hidden all around the building. With each clue discovered, they moved one step closer to identifying the mystery text. Their journey concluded with a very special surprise: the witch from Room on the Broom - beautifully brought to life by Mrs Sheepy! She welcomed the children at the end of their hunt and treated them to a wonderful reading of the much‑loved Julia Donaldson story.

Classes then visited the Practical Room for a deliciously creative activity: decorating rice cakes as Julia Donaldson characters using fruits and icing. Soon we had monkeys, owls, bears, rabbits and more - each one crafted with enthusiasm and eaten with just as much delight!

Throughout the day, classrooms buzzed with book‑themed activities. Children enjoyed a special teacher swap, where staff visited different classes to share their favourite picture books. Another highlight was seeing our Year 1 children proudly visit nursery, reading stories to the younger pupils and showing what confident storytellers they have become.

Most importantly, World Book Day reminded us all of the power of reading - how stories can connect us, inspire us and spark a lifelong love of books.
